Ooltewah is a Native American phrase that means “Resting Place” according to a plaque mounted on the old caddy shack at The Honors Course – a private golf club situated at the foot of White Oak Mountain in Ooltewah. Many residents of Ooltewah plausibly claim that it means “Owl’s Nest Ooltewah Middle/High School’s team mascot is the Owl.
Ooltewah has just recently been noted as the “fastest” growing suberbs of Chattanooga. Close proximity to the Volkswagen and Amazon plant accoutns for this recognition.
